Solutions for improving fleet sustainability

Fleet managers face increasing pressure from sustainability regulations, rising fuel costs and stricter reporting requirements. Telematics and fleet management software is now essential for improving sustainability, reducing costs and increasing operational efficiency.

At Modul-System, sustainability has always been woven into our DNA when developing new products and features. Modul-Connect demonstrates just how telematics for fleets can transform fleet management by simplifying sustainability efforts, improving performance and streamlining reporting.

In this blog, we will explore how Modul-Connect can:

- Lower fuel consumption and reduce CO2 emissions
- Ease and improve sustainability reporting
- Monitor vehicle load weight to improve durability and reduce fuel usage
- Maintain tools to improve life cycles and minimise waste
- Heat your vehicle emission-free
- Support you on your transition across to EVs

Fleet telematics for sustainability management

There are numerous ways that Modul-Connect can enhance sustainable fleet management. Starting with real-time and historical data; you can monitor mileage, vehicle weight and tool maintenance. This will help you identify inefficiencies and reduce unnecessary mileage. For example, route optimisation can significantly lower fuel consumption and reduce GHG emissions

Driving journals for route optimisation

The driving journal that comes as a standard tool with the Modul-Connect Hub, offers a convenient solution for documenting journeys using fleet telematics. You can effortlessly track and categorise your trips, switching between business and private trips with ease. Your drivers can add any additional notes and you can download monthly reports for streamlined record-keeping. Through detailed trip notes, accurate mileage tracking improves sustainability reporting, simplifies compliance and highlights opportunities to reduce unnecessary journeys. In conjunction with the Customer Portal, you can follow vehicles across your fleet in real-time and generate historical data reports.

A weighing system to reduce fuel consumption

It is often difficult to know when a vehicle has reached its maximum load, which can result in underloading if operators are unsure of the vehicle’s weight. This can lead to additional trips to transport all cargo. Overloaded vehicles on the other hand consume more fuel and increase wear on tyres and suspension components. Monitoring vehicle load weight in real time can therefore have a substantial impact on fuel usage and compliance.

With Modul-Connect, the weighing system helps monitor the front and rear axle weight, as well as total weight of the vehicle. If the system detects an overload, a warning is sent directly to the user. These real-time alerts not only help avoid fines but also identify opportunities to improve sustainability and reduce fuel consumption.

Predictive tool maintenance to extend life cycles

When you keep your tools in top condition, you can extend their life cycles and reduce unnecessary waste. The Maintenance Service feature will send you notifications to alert you to scheduled maintenance. This will ensure that your tools are kept in working condition for the longest possible period, reducing replacement cost and preventing unnecessary waste. With Modul-Connect, you can also include a Tool Tracker with real-time tracking and status updates. You will always know where your tools are to help you reduce tool loss across your fleet.

Tools to support fleet sustainability

Global fleets are continuing to transition over to electric or hybrid vehicles. Modul-System appreciates the challenges fleet managers face and we continue to develop ways to support you with this transition. As standard, our van racking and shelving is all drill-free, meaning that it can be easily converted into electric and hybrid vans. Additional tools that can support the move across to electrification include:

- e-Power: The auxiliary batteries double as control units for a connected e-Heater and/or e-Inverter, creating effortless management. The e-Power can be charged in three different ways; AC, DC and solar charging. This ensures your workspace is always ready with reliable extra power.

- e-Inverter: We offer two models, e-Inverter 2000 and e-Inverter 3000, available across both the EU and the UK. Our e-Inverters work alongside the e-Power to charge and power electronics and appliances. The 3000W inverter also includes a built-in bypass function which allows direct AC to passthrough when external power is available.

- e-Heater: The e-Heaters delivers powerful, zero-emission heating for commercial vehicles. Using PTC technology, it provides safe, reliable warmth for both electric and fuel-powered vehicles. When integrated with Modul-Connect, it also allows remote pre-heating, helping fleets reduce emissions and improve efficiency.

Supporting the transition to electric vehicles

Fleet electrification presents new operational challenges from range management to auxiliary power needs. Modul-Connect is ready to support you with your transition to electric or hybrid vehicles across your fleet. Our tools and features work across both traditional ICE vehicles and electric and hybrid vans. So, whether you have already moved your fleet across to electric vehicles, or it’s somewhere on the horizon, we can support you with sustainable fleet management, and telematics using Modul-Connect.
